Whisker Pole

Job Pole Setup

This information is intended to be an GUIDE ONLY  It shows the way I have things set up on my boat TS16 “Old China”

The whisker pole is usually a 32mm (External) aluminium
tube max length 2590mm, plan 2515mm – ones in
photos are 2450mm

The ends are stuffed with Poly-styrene to prevent flooding
& enable
flotation for a while

The ends are Ronstan spinnaker fittings RM677

You will also need two saddles s/cord DK cup
16 3/16  6-6 monel pop rivets
3m cord 4mm.

To assemble

1) Force the polystyrene down each end about 15mm

2) Fit one spinnaker fitting to an end, drill one 3/16
hole & fasten with a pop rivet, then drill & fasten other holes.

3) At other end, align the other spinnaker fitting with the
first & fit same way.

4) Now place a coloured tape around one end – this will
be the outer end that fits to the ring on the foot of the jib.

5) Place the two saddles roughly at 1/3 spacing.

6) Whip the cord on the outer pull ring, then wind it
twice around the first saddle, then loose through the
next saddle & whip to the other pull ring.

7) The reason for winding it twice around the first saddle
is to stop the sail being inadvertently released before
it is pulled well back from the forestay. In the process
of releasing the pole, the windward jib sheet should be quickly pulled in.
