Fibreglass Male Mould Specifications

Motion Number 2:  Carried at the 2003 AGM 64 yes 24 no

The specifications for foam sandwich construction on a male mould be as follows:-

1.The outside shape of the hull, deck and cabin will follow the official plan and fit the relevant measurement tolerances in the Association Tolerance measurements Form and any additional measurements that may apply

            2.The builder/owner may be required to supply a Certificate of Structural Integrity, signed by an appropriately qualified person

            3.Only polyester and vynalester based resins and flowcoat may be used

            4.Core to be closed cell foam, minimum density not less than 70kg/cu.m. Minimum thickness to be 10mm.

            5.Only Eglass cloth and chop strand mat may be used

Outer laminate = 800gm/sq.m. minimum

 Inner laminate = 640gm/sq.m. minimum

            6.The hull profile may vary from the wooden boat in the area of the deadwood. It is permissible to blend the hull directly into the deadwood with a maximum                 radius of  25mm

            7.Measuring should make allowances for rounding of both internal and external corners, allowing a maximum 20mm radius

            8.Buoyancy shall consist of a minimum of four tanks, as per the official Measurement Form

            9.Reinforcing knees or gussets, minimum 150mm x 150mm are to be built in under the deck as follows:-

9.1       at approximately No.1 frame station

9.2       below the forward edge of the cabin

9.3       where appropriate under the cockpit seats (if there are no cockpit sides built in)

            10.The stem keel and deadwood will be a minimum of 4mm solid fibreglass or minimum 2mm glass reinforced with solid material

            11.Stress areas, such as chain plate, rudder pintal, mast step, towing eye, outboard, etc. positions will be reinforced with solid glass and/or other suitable                     material

            12.Athwartship frames to support bunks, cabin floor and cockpit floor shall be a minimum of four, including one under the mast support post forward of No. 4                 frame and a minimum of three, aft of No.4 frame. No. 4 frame (aft of cabin) will be a full bulkhead

            13.All frames and gussets will meet the minimum specifications for foam core and lamination

            14.All joints will be suitably reinforced with fibreglass cloth or mat.
